Here’s the ‘OFFICIAL’ write up:

I’m Aaron Paquette, acclaimed artist, bestselling author, speaker, and founder of the Great Creators Academy.

I show people what Creativity is, where it comes from, and how we can use it to make our own lives and efforts ten times more impactful, full of energy, excitement and joy. I want to share with you all the best stuff I’ve got when it comes to harnessing the power of your Creativity-fuelled life.

You see, the world needs you. The world needs Creators. The problem is, most people don’t believe they have a Creative bone in their body.

Well, that’s a big, monster myth.

Creativity is the essence of who we are and it’s one of the first things we seem to lose as we grow out of childhood.

Creating a Life

Do you wish you could come up with that one great idea, that one shift in thinking that would land you a better job, deepen your relationships, or just make you a little bit better at everything you do?

I understand because I felt that way too.

I used to be as poor as it gets. I was depressed. I felt alone. I saw no future for myself and I didn’t even think I had a HOPE for a future. I was a failure as an artist and I was ready to give up on everything. I was rejected and hungry. Directionless and afraid.

And in the hour of my greatest struggle, something happened. A light went on. A personal insight and moment of enlightenment shone out from the darkness … and it saved my life. I went from walking the gutters to sharing the stage with Prime Ministers, Hollywood stars, and some of the world’s greatest thinkers. I’ve welcomed nationally recognized authors, performers, and artists to my own stage. And I’ve travelled extensively, honoured to share my message with youth, leaders, teachers and all kinds of communities, each facing their own challenges.

It took me almost 20 years to figure out how to share my journey in a way that will help get you from point A to point B MUCH faster than I did. And hopefully save you years of frustration and tears along the way. To do so, I’ve turned to my traditional Indigenous culture to help provide the framework. I’ve received permission to use the blueprint, but the teachings are all my own.

Even though I’ve achieved some really great success with my art, writing, and speaking, I am always searching, always OPEN for the next thing, the next idea that will inspire me in new ways.

I know that you feel it, too. We all do. It’s part of being human.

The problem is that we have no instructions. No basic and consistent way to access our own Creativity as deeply as we’d like. There are a lot of “Artist” books out there, but what about just that everyday, transformative form of creation? What about looking art Creativity not as a practice, but an essential and inseparable way of life? Why aren’t they teaching THAT?

This can be very frustrating.

One thing I’ve learned in life is that there is fundamentally no difference between painting a work of art, writing a short story, or building stronger bonds of love with my children. It all seems to come from the same place.

In fact, I’d like to share with you today 3 truths about creativity that I’ve learned along the way.

The first is what I just mentioned. That…

1. All creativity comes from the same place

Now, I’m not going to go into any deep metaphysical theories here, even though we could. I want to talk nuts and bolts for a second. When I say all creativity comes from the same place, a few people will be nodding their heads because they know what I mean, but if you’re like I was, you might be saying, “huh?”

Well, let me explain.

From Frieda Kahlo to Leonardo DaVinci, from Mozart to Hendrix, almost every person who has made a work of art has had similar experiences: that !aha! moment when the light shines and the idea just pours in. Chances are pretty good that you’ve had that experience before, too.

So, if we’re all having that experience at one point or another, it’s pretty safe to say it’s kind of universal to being human. You know, we’re not all accessing completely different parts of ourselves to get to that spark either.

In fact, a huge amount of the best ideas we’ve ever had come from very specific moments. Moments we’ve all had.

And leads us to realization number 2:

2. Inspiration happens when you aren’t trying. THEN the work begins

Have you ever tried to remember a name or a fact and it just eludes you? It seems the harder you try to remember that information the more elusive it gets.

On a larger scale, that may be how you’re living your life. Let me explain.

You want something, no…you need something. Maybe it’s money, a new job, a solution to a problem…and you’re going after it with all your might. You’re trying to force this thing to JUST HAPPEN.

And it’s just not.

In fact, the harder you try, the further you feel from what you’re trying to get.

Pretty common, don’t feel too bad if that describes some aspect of your life.

But you get what I’m saying, right? The more you force something, the more resistance you seem to encounter.

So that name you’re trying to remember…as soon as you let go of it, as soon as you move on to something else completely (and maybe you’re brushing your teeth later that night, or falling asleep)…

Out of the blue the name, the thing you were trying to remember jumps into your mind. Easy as pie.

Well, that’s just how it works for creativity, too.

The moment you let your mind and body relax, the moment when your conscious self stops trying to force things or just gets quiet for bit, that’s when a deeper part of you can be heard. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a great idea for a painting just as I was nodding off. There are countless moments in history of people suddenly getting just the information they needed.

There was a fellow in Ancient Greece named Archimedes who was sitting in a bath tub when he figured out how to measure the density of gold. His exclamation of realization and surprise is one we still use today when something becomes instantly clear to us:

Which leads us to realization number three.

3. Despite what you may have been told, you really are creative.

Every moment you exist is a creative moment. Whether you are aware of it or not.

Form the breath you are transforming from oxygen to carbon dioxide, to the conversion of food and water to blood and bone you are always recreating yourself and having an impact on the world.

Now, if that’s what you can do, perform that kind of alchemy without even thinking about it, what can you do when you learn the secrets to unlocking the creative potential you carry inside you?

I don’t want to get all rah rah, but the truth is, that’s who I am. I am never more excited and alive in my professional life than I am when I see students waking up to their own generative power. Creativity is essential in art, yes, absolutely. That’s obvious. But it is also just as essential in everything else we do. Part of the problems we face in our lives is that we get told over and over again, first by others, and then our own voice takes over:

“You aren’t creative. You can’t do it.”

Well, that’s a lie. And we’re going to change all that together.
